Brother William : BUT WHAT IS SO ALARMING ABOUT LAUGHTER ?"
Jorge : LAUGHTER KILLS FEAR AND WITHOUT FEAR THERE CAN BE NO FAITH, BECAUSE WITHOUT FEAR OF THE DEVIL THERE IS NO MORE NEED OF GOD."
Welcome to the-name-of-the-rose.com - a monument to
probably the greatest and most authentic feature film set in the middle ages.
Clicking on one of the links below will give you access to a rather comprehensive source of information on promotional stuff of the film
(and thus the very film) from all over the world. These fan pages, which expressly don't serve any commercial purpose, but whose
sole intent is to form a monument paying "all due respect" to one of the greatest films of all time, already now include a large
number of pictures of and other information on the film itself and related items used in its promotion.

HOW THESE PAGES WORK ( AND HOW IT ALL CAME ABOUT )
First off, I need to admit that for now this very page you are on is the only English one. Nevertheless, I thought that what I created so far could be of interest for an international audience, and I'm sure that those who have seen this great film film (I urge those, who haven't yet, to do so !) will agree. One thing I learned from my other websites is that it's much easier to "mirror" a more or less finished website in another language than to constantly work on two sites. Sooner or later I will catch up, though.
Having ever since its original release been a big fan of the medieval gothic of "THE NAME OF THE ROSE," I some time ago started collecting all kinds of promo stuff of the film. Soon I was to find out, that there was a more than incredible amount of it from all corners of the world. And, as if that ain't enough, each country had its own items showing ever differents views, items that differed more from one another, than I had ever before witnessed it with other films.
At about the same pace as my knowledge about all those items grew my collection, and I asked myself, how I could let others participate in my "little treasure." To my surprise, the (dash) .com - url was not yet registered, and I soon started transferring things to a digital form, putting them together and uploading them (somewhere into the skies, I suppose, where they now float forevermore).
Due to the fact that the first things I usually got my hands on, were the movie posters from the respective countries, these posters soon became the basis of my pages, hence forming THE POSTERS GALLERY. Using this page as a kind of starting point, enables the "clicker" (which is you!) to quickly access the poster pages of the desired countries, which include a lot of additional information, images, and links to other promotional material.
The poster gallery currently being the first (and original!) one of the two main pages of the-name-of-the-rose.com, (I bet you guessed it ! ) there must be another one: The LIST OF PROMO STUFF, in which you can find, once again listed by country, all promotional material of "THE NAME OF THE ROSE" that I have knowledge of (i.e., unfortunately I don't own all of this yet). This page gives you access to images of almost every single item listed, and some of those very stylish items cannot be seen anywhere else!
IMPORTANT NOTE regarding the "list of promo stuff" : Clicking on the countries' name will take you the respective poster page, while clicking on the item's description will either take you to a single image of the item, or a page with several items. Simply look at the "list of promo stuff" page as your direct access to the items. No detours, here.
I guess that's enough for now - enjoy !!
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FUTURE
These pages for now being more or less limited to a display of items and related information used in the promotion of the film's original release, I would nevertheless like to announce my plans of a future inclusion of (mostly just as pictorial) information on (to name but a few) :
the film's "makers" and their philosophy in creating this film,
the film's extraordinarily international cast,
its locations in Germany and Italy
( amongst others "Kloster Eberbach", a former cloister of the cistercian order situated in the Mainz region, Germany, where the major interiors were shot. In fact I visited this more than incredible place in 2002, and encourage you too, to do so, just in case you are around. I am now planning to create a direct comparison between the pictures and footage I shot when there, with scenes from the film ),
other releases related to "THE NAME OF THE ROSE",
related links (among which a rather amusing review of the film by a member of the austrian clergy ( "a film we could without a doubt live without..." )
